Mindfulness: The Basics – A FREE mini E-Book

My DBT art journalling work has consistently been the most popular thing I’ve produced and shared. On my blog, the artwork is re-visited time and time again, and some of the pieces went viral when first pinned on Pinterest.

For a long time I almost believed people who told me “make your art less mental health centered” for fear of scaring away customers. But I continued to openly share the DBT Skill inspired pieces in the hope it would encourage and remind those of you going through the DBT journey to keep practicing, stay mindful and centered in yourself, and keep practicing the skills.

It has been a long journey for me; now a year a since I finished DBT. My self awareness has grown with my constant minfulness practice and willingness to engage with teqchniques new and old. Some days I feel as if I am spiralling, I have no grasp of the skills and how to use them, I never did. Other days I use the skills almost subconsciously and can look back with pride at how I managed a situation effectively, even effortlessly.

But a year on, as I leave the official DBT structure behind, I am constantly reminded of how powerful it has been in transforming my life. And that is something I need to share.

And so, to share with you and all on a similar journey the ways I have adapted and integrated the DBT to fit my own creative life, I am currently working on a full format E-book called The Creative DBT Workbook, which is due to be released later in the month. It is a 42 page guide, jam packed full of tips, creative activities, affirmation cards and colouring pages to help you learn to live and love the DBT Skills.

While creating the book, my commitment to the skills has been thoroughly tested. Self doubt, technical hitches, a baby chewing up half the illustrations and other peoples criticisms have left me floundering; wondering if what I am creating is waste of time or whether it really is, like I believe, something that the recovery community truly needs.

One skill has brought me back to centre again and again, the most simple core skill from all of DBT; Mindfulness.

But with so much written about mindfulness on the internet, in books, magazines, and discussed by recovery/self improvement circles, people can get confused about what mindfulness actually is… and getting caught up on the words can stop you from using this important skill; It stopped me for a LONG TIME.

To try unravel some of the confusion surrounding mindfulness and help others gain more understanding of this simple yet highly effective skill; I have also created a quick FREE guide to mindfulness, explaining the core definition of mindfulness alongside some basic ideas for practice, mindful mornings, and spaces to reflect on your own life.
